IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear ComicCapsule Family,
Protecting your comics has always been, and will always be, our top priority. As collectors ourselves, we understand how much your collection means to you, and we are fully committed to ensuring its safety. We want to address a recent issue with full transparency.
We have received reports that some Comics stored raw in the ComicCapsule have left imprints on the interior back of the ComicCapsule. In our current finding, we have determined that the back of the ComicCapsule, which is made of a softer PolyPropylene plastic, is building a thin layer on the plastic itself. We have no reason to believe this impacts the Comics themselves.
The team is thoroughly analyzing all available data to determine why this is happening and if we need to make design changes to our product to provide the best possible protection for your comics and ease of mind.
Update as of March 28, 2025
We are closing in on a final solution as we enter the final stage of testing new materials.
Findings & Solutions
Film Formation Issue: After vigorous testing, we can confirm it is caused by the current polypropylene (a food-grade polypropylene) after prolonged exposure to heat and humidity. We have identified a new polypropylene material that has endured our testing with no film formation. We are continuing more endurance testing.
Imprint of Comics: This issue seems to primarily affect comics printed before the year 2000. We are still testing this theory (having analyzed over 50+ different comic books so far), with plans to continue our testing to strengthen our hypothesis. Our findings suggest that the imprint is formed due to the ink’s acidity and its interaction with surrounding materials over time.
Imprint and not ink transfer: To date, we have seen no evidence of ink transfer, and we have not received any reports of comic book damage caused by these imprints.
As we gear up for production of the upgraded ComicCapsules, we remain committed to providing the highest quality and safest storage for your comics. To ensure the best protection for your collection, we strongly recommend using at least a bag / board when storing your comics in the ComicCapsule.
We will keep you posted with further updates. Thank you for being part of the ComicCapsule family!
